Overexpression of a small heat‐shock‐protein gene enhances tolerance to abiotic stresses in rice

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most important crops in the world which survives from various abiotic stresses in natural environments with specific stress‐involved genes expressed. Plant sHSPs (small heat‐shock proteins) were reported to respond to abiotic stresses. To improve the understanding of sHSPs in rice, we characterized heat‐shock‐protein gene OsHSP18.6 here. OsHSP18.6 could be induced by diverse stresses, such as drought, salt and cold, especially under heat. The gene was found expressed in root, stem, leaf, internode and spikelet. Overexpression of OsHSP18.6 results in increased thermotolerance and exhibits universal tolerance to stresses tested, including heat, drought, salt and cold. Lower levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and greater activities of catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were observed in OsHSP18.6‐overexpression rice under heat and drought. OsHSP18.6‐overexpression lines indicated decreased sterile rates under hot weather without remarkable changes in most of other agronomic traits compared with wild‐type plants.     

Geographical ‘handicaps’ and small states: Some implications for the Pacific from a global perspective

Abstract: Research on the economic performance of small states has concentrated on the implications of small size and thin local markets. An interesting feature of many of the world's smallest states, of which the Pacific region has many, is that they face additional challenges than just small size. Many are remote from global markets for their products. In addition, a large number are also islands, many of which are also mountainous. Many of the smaller states are not just islands, but are also archipelagos. Hence in addition to small size, many of the world's small states also exhibit four other characteristics that may affect their economic performance: insularity, remoteness, being archipelagos and being highly mountainous entities. This paper examines the nature of the challenges posed by these four characteristics and seeks to produce empirical evidence of how difficult it has been to overcome these challenges. The paper draws on empirical evidence for 126 very small global states, dependent territories and highly autonomous regions. The paper then turns to the position of the Pacific small states and dependent territories.

“一带一路”背景下河南食用菌出口贸易发展研究

十多年来我国食用菌产量快速增长,食用菌总产量占全球75%以上。2004—2018年,河南食用菌产量、出口量连续居全国第一。河南自然资源、生产成本的优势,以及相关政策和科研创新的推动,形成了河南食用菌出口贸易发展的有利因素;但由于规划缺位、研发力量薄弱、工厂化发展滞后,河南食用菌在国际市场上还存在品种单一、结构单一、市场过于集中的问题。为此,建议突出食用菌产业的战略地位,做好顶层设计,充分利用好“一带一路”的机遇和本省的资源优势,加强食用菌出口供应链管理,加大研发推广和产业升级力度,营造一流发展环境,提升食用菌国际市场品质,将河南食用菌供应链延伸到更多的国家和地区。     

贫困地区农业技术推广新模式：发展小区域农业技术推广户 ——基于甘肃省部分贫困县的调查思考

An Evidential Analysis on the Rural Urbanization Development in Chongqing

The rural urbanization process in Chongqing is much slower than that in other metropolitans and most of the provinces in eastern China, which can't adapt to its important function as the economic and cultural center in southwestern China.It is urgent for Chongqing to accelerate the rural urbanization for improving its whole urbanization level and speeding up its economy development to catch up with other metropolitans and some advanced provinces.Compared with the urbanization in other metropolitans and some provinces, the authors demonstrated the rural urbanization situation and its characteristics in Chongqing in details, analyzed the reasons for the poor urbanization and its influences on the social-economic development especially that in the rural area.Inferior position of Chongqing's small towns in the market competition with those from other provinces is one of the results of its poor urbanization development.At last, the authors suggested a few practical countermeasures to improve the rural urbanization in order to get a rapid and sustainable rural development and to increase the whole economic effects of the metropolitan.     

Design for Precision Measurement System Based on Machine Vision

It is difficult to measure the geometric quantity of small parts in finishing, assembling and measuring, because it's easy to break the workpieces' surface and alter their position by means of traditional contact measuring methods.There are some non contact measurers, such as,light feeler pin and interference microscope etc., because of it's high price and strict working conditions,so it's difficult to promote them in widely use. Precision measurement system based on machine vision has the advantages of non contact measuring as well as high performance and low price. Some problems, such as light source, algorithm of edge fitting, auto focusing,are discussed.     

A Theoretical Analysis of Underpricing in IPOs Based on the Irrational Behavior of Investors

Employing the standpoint of irrational investors in the behavior finance, the authors study the relation on the irrational behavior of medium and small Investors and underpricing of IPO in our country. The paper premises that a revenue-maximizing issuer will be regarded as the target function, and the rational institutional investors can be delegated the task of holding the stocks in the after-market for resale to the irrational medium and small investors--thereby extracting surplus from them, finally the issuer can maximize their expected revenue. We model the process mentioned above and find that the high underpricing of IPO in our country has the direct relation with numerous the irrational medium and small investors existing in our country who cause the underpricing.
